Glossary

Holistic– in regards to medicine it refers to treating the whole person considering their emotional and social health as well as their physical symptoms.

Manual therapy– physical treatments used to treat muscle and joint pain and injury. It commonly consists of massage, kneading muscles, joint mobilization or joint manipulation.

Soft tissue– tissues that connect, support or surround other structures and organs of the body. It includes connective tissues  (tendons, ligaments, fascia, skin, fibrous tissue, fat, and synovial membranes )and non-connective tissues (muscles, nerves, and blood vessels).

Fascia– connective tissue fibers made primarily of collagen. These fibers form bands under the skin which attach, enclose, separate or stabilize muscles and organs.

Connective tissue– is found between other tissues of the body and separates, connects, or supports tissues and organs in the body including the central nervous system

Central nervous system– consists of the brain, spinal cord and a network of neurons. It receives, sends and interprets information from all parts of the body. It is also responsible for responding to external temperature changes and monitoring and organizing internal organ function.

Ligament– join one bone to another bone

Tendon-join muscle to bone
